A Practical Guide to Custom Printed Paper Bags
Dimensions, handles, print and product weight: the details to consider before requesting a quotation.

Measure the things the bag will carry
Start with the product or combination of items that will go inside. Record dimensions with units and describe the way they should sit. A bag brief normally needs a clear width, height and side or base depth; include a labelled sketch if the measurement convention could be misunderstood.
Allow room for handling, but do not guess an oversized bag simply because it looks generous. Ask for the proposed internal space and opening to be reviewed against the real contents, including any product boxes, tissue or supporting packaging.
Include weight and handling conditions
Provide the weight of the expected contents and explain how customers will carry them. Let the supplier know if the bag will be used for several items together or in conditions that need special consideration. Weight information belongs in the brief even when the product is small.
Bag dimensions, paper, handle attachment and reinforcement work together. Neither paper appearance nor a decorative handle proves a particular carrying capacity. Ask for the proposed construction and any appropriate sample or performance validation; do not use an concept image as load-rating evidence.
Compare handle styles practically
Rope-style, twisted-paper and other paper handle approaches create different looks and handling experiences. Consider grip, the space needed above the contents and how the handle fits with the overall design. Treat these as options to discuss rather than a list of confirmed available processes.
Ask how the proposed handle attaches and whether the design needs reinforcement. A handle that looks suitable in a concept image may not represent the material or attachment recommended for your brief. Availability and the final construction must be confirmed through production review.
Discuss paper with a clear purpose
Describe the visual character you prefer, such as an uncoated appearance or a smooth printed surface, alongside the practical requirements. If you have a particular paper in mind, give its reference or explain the result you want. Confirm the proposed material instead of assuming that similar-looking papers behave alike.
Avoid unsupported environmental or product-contact claims. A natural colour is not proof of recycled content, certification or recyclability. If such a requirement matters, state exactly what needs to be verified and ask which evidence will support the final specification and any claim made about it.
Plan print and finishing around the bag
Prepare the logo, artwork status, colour references and an indication of which surfaces should be printed. Consider folds, handle areas and the way the bag will be assembled; artwork needs to work with the confirmed dieline rather than a generic rectangle.
Finishes may affect appearance, feel and handling. Discuss them as technical options subject to the chosen material and production review, not as guarantees from a concept image. Ask how colours and artwork will be reviewed and what final-proof approval will cover before an order proceeds.
Keep the range consistent
If you need several bag sizes, think about how the artwork will work across them. A single layout may need adjustment so that the brand feels consistent without placing details too close to folds or handles. Identify essential colours and elements rather than assuming the artwork can simply be stretched.
State the quantity for each size or design and any planned repeat use. This helps the conversation cover the actual range. Keep preferred delivery timing separate from confirmed dates, and include the delivery area so the quotation can reflect the intended destination.
Build a useful quotation request
Send the proposed dimensions, product weight, estimated quantities by size, handle preferences, artwork status, print ideas and delivery area. Include the intended use and any requirements needing independent evidence. Where a detail is undecided, say so and ask what information would help resolve it.

Technical options are for discussion. Availability depends on confirmed specifications and production review; this guide does not establish manufacturing capability, performance or environmental claims.
